Dog Licensing

Thank you for visiting this site to register your pets! By protecting your pets, you are also protecting the people around you. California requires rabies vaccines for dogs, as it is a deadly disease. In order for Mono County to manage this mandate, pet owners of Mono County are required to register their dog with a dog license and a current rabies vaccination. The dog license relies on a current vaccination in order to be valid. Below you will find instructions for registering your dog with a dog license.

--- Attention Mammoth Lakes Residents ---

Mono County Animal Services does not issue dog licenses to dogs living within the town of Mammoth Lakes, if you are a resident of the town of Mammoth Lakes, you may acquire a dog license through https://mammothlakes.docupet.com/en_US/

Dog Licensing Made Easy As Mono County Launches Partnership with DocuPet!

Licensing dogs in Mono County is now easier, modernized, and more valuable for everyone.

Mono County is delighted to launch its partnership with DocuPet, a world-leading pet profile, lost pet, and licensing platform.

Pet owners now get free access to DocuPet’s HomeSafe™ 24/7 lost pet service, and a variety of colorful and unique designer tags linked to a secure online profile when they license their pets with Mono County.

Through our new licensing process with DocuPet, residents have the option to select a generic County-branded license tag at no additional charge or upgrade to one of DocuPet’s colorful designer tags for $15. Please note there is a service charge of $0.30 for processing online payments, which is not collected by Mono County. The service charge is paid to Docupet's credit card processing company. If you wish to avoid this service charge, you are welcome to bypass paying online by mailing your payments to Animal Services directly. Or visit our office at 199 Twin Lakes Road, Bridgeport CA.

Each DocuPet tag, generic or designer, doubles as a dog’s official license in Mono County. Furthermore, 20% of every designer tag purchase is donated to For 4 Paws (Follow the link). For 4 Paws provides financial support for pet owners of Mono County as well as the adoptable pets in the Mono County shelters, such as emergency vet care.

When Does my license expire?

Previously, licenses expired annually on June 30, now Mono County allows pet owners to purchase a term of 1 year, 2 years or 3 years, to coincide with the date of the rabies vaccination. The license is only valid with a valid rabies vaccination, if the vaccination expires within the term that was paid for, the license will expire!

Remember to update your vaccinations!

If you pay for a 3 year license term, and the rabies vaccination expires in 2 years, you will need to update that vaccination before the grace period of 90 days, or your license will expire.

What is a temporary license?

This is a license given when documentation verification is incomplete, or your rabies expires within the term paid for.

If you document your dog as being spayed or neutered, and there's no documentation uploaded or verified by our staff, you can purchase the license at the discounted rate, but you will receive a temporary license lasting 3 months, which gives you time to provide the right documentation. If you do not update your documentation, your license will expire.

Visit a licensing and vaccination clinic!

Mono County holds a licensing and low cost vaccinations clinic at different locations throughout the County during the first three Saturdays of June.

Sierra Veterinary Clinic holds vaccination clinics on the last Tuesday of every month. Call 760-873-4824 to make an appointment.
