District 4: John Peters, Chair (2024)
The opportunity to represent District 4 is a great honor and a privilege. As Chair of Mono County Board of Supervisors, I pledge to continue the good work our Board and staff have demonstrated over time. I will lead with honesty and integrity with an emphasis on sound governance practices.
Mono County is a great place to visit and an even better place to live. I will be a part of the team of dedicated Mono County leaders and employees helping to keep our natural resources vital and vibrant as well as maintain a thriving sustainable economy in Northern Mono County and the region as a whole. I believe that regional and local solutions with a collaborative approach including citizens, public and private organizations and county government will give us the best opportunity to be successful within our local communities and the Town of Mammoth Lakes in Mono County.
During my time in Mono County, I have lived both in Bridgeport and Walker where I raised 3 children who all attended school in the Eastern Sierra Unified District (ESUSD) and graduated from Coleville High School. Today I live in Bridgeport with my wife Nubia who has worked for Mono County for the last 20 years. I was an elected School Board Trustee of ESUSD from 2012-2016. Currently I am a member of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce (25 years) and The Antelope Valley Lions Club (AVLC) 22 years. I have served as President of the AVLC and the School Board and have been an officer of several other community organizations and have served on countless volunteer committees and led many community fundraising efforts.
As Supervisor I will focus on fiscal sustainability with attention to what I believe is our greatest resource, the people who live, work, and play in Mono County. We must continue to provide the goods and services that do justice to our Majestic Natural Beauty and vast Resources where we call home. The Eastern side of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. The eastside has unique challenges and opportunities which we must embrace while recognizing the fragile environment in which we live and the recreational opportunities that abound. Our tourist-based economy demands this. It is this balance that must be attained and supported by your leaders that will allow our area to thrive.
I believe I have the tools that are required to be that leader that will help drive our County into the future. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Management and a background in accounting and hospitality management as well as local elected and non-elected experience as a community leader and organizer. My communications skills and business acumen will serve me well as your representative. I work for you, the people who live and work in District 4 and Mono County as your Board of Supervisors representative.
From North to South District 4, which is the largest geographic district in Mono County, includes Topaz, Coleville and Walker in the beautiful Antelope Valley, Bridgeport Valley (Big Meadow) stretching from Devils Gate through our Mono County Seat of Bridgeport past the gateway to our States gold rush history, the State Park of Bodie (once home to more than 10,000 people) all the way up to Conway Summit with an elevation of 8143’. From this vista on the highest point on US HWY 395 in the continental United States is the stunning view of one of the world’s most unique landscapes and ecological systems, the Mono Lake Basin. District 4 then continues east along the eastern boundary of the county and travels south to include areas like the Historic Arcularious Ranch before it connects into the town of Mammoth Lakes where 30% of the residents of District 4 live. It is a unique and vast district in an amazing County that deserves dedicated and thoughtful leadership. I will be that leader.
