District 3: Bob Gardner (2024)
I am honored to represent 3rd District residents on the Mono County Board of Supervisors. The 3rd District is diverse, including the communities of June Lake and Lee Vining, plus a good portion of the Town of Mammoth Lakes. Serving on the Board of Supervisors is a chance to give back to a region that has been special to me for many decades, and to share my 40 years of experience managing public organizations. My goal is to ensure that we continue to make Mono County one of the finest counties in California, and a great place to live, work, and play. I will work with the County to ensure that residents clearly understand what they get for the taxes they pay.
I grew up in Bishop and enjoyed hiking, fishing, and skiing in the Eastern Sierra. My family has owned property in Mammoth or June Lake since the early 1960s. I have been a member of the June Lake Citizens Advisory Committee and am currently the President of the Eastern Sierra Land Trust.
Most recently I served as the Executive Director of the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association, which operates 11 local bookstores and provides various interpretive programs in partnership with the US Forest Service and other public lands agencies. Before that I was the Vice President of Finance and Administration at California State University San Bernardino. I also served on the Redlands City Council from 2010 to 2014. I completed 30 years of federal government service in 2009, with my last position as CFO at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center. Prior to that I served as CFO and in other financial management positions in Washington, DC with several other federal agencies.
I graduated from the University of Redlands with a degree in Government, and from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University with a degree in Public Administration.
My wife, Karen, is a retired United Methodist pastor. She is also the Co-Coordinator of the Mono Lake Volunteer program. We have three grown sons, Adam, Kyle, and Nathan, all of whom worked for Mammoth and June Mountain while in college.
